Welcome Back, Coxer
My home entertainment system is a lot closer to being done. I picked up a Dual Tuner Tivo last week, and even though we've had a Tivo in the house for a year or two, the dual-tuner option is incredible. I finally can record both House and Scrubs at the same time. I fear my ass will somehow become glued to my recliner. A recliner which as of right this minute, is broken and is being held together by a wood screw an inch too short and three specifically bent Altoids tins. Quality, I know.
So when wading through CompUSA yesterday, I wandered over to the Xbox 360 display and tried my hand at EA's Fight Night Round 3, and I was blown away. The graphics were almost flawless, the mechanics of the game were great, and it was really just a fun time. This reminded me that I haven't really just sat down and spent a lot of time on a game in a while. The majority of my gaming has been in 10-30 minute intervals on the DS, whenever I get a free minute. So today I sat down with Tony Hawk's American Wasteland on the Xbox and managed to get almost all the way through the game in 6 hours. It's a great game, even if I can't manage to boneless completely over those damned stairs in Santa Monica. Grumble grumble.
Mission Impossible 3 was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. The script was surprisingly good for an action movie, and the thing I appreciate most is that the writers didn't settle for a murky plot, some crazy unpredictable turn of events, and then everything perfectly falling into place.
New TV addition: Thief on FX. Great show. Sopranos season 6 has been a bit lame so far, so Thief and season two of House are my favorites right now. Lost and Prison Break have both been excellent as well.
NHL Playoffs: The acquisition of Joe Thornton by the Sharks has got to be the best move of the entire year. The Sharks looked great late in the season and are on a tear in the playoffs. Carolina, after dropping two against Montreal, has gotten what can only be called "shit hot", racking up 6 Ws in a row including a 6-0 thrashing of the Devils in Game 1 of the 2nd round.
Why does it seem like everybody has a RAZR? I can't go anywhere without seeing one of those. Oh and those stupid Bluetooth earpieces too - they're everywhere. Why? Hell if I know. Perhaps because holding that ultra-heavy 7oz. RAZR up to their ears is just too much work for people. I want one because it's neat technology, yet will never get one because it's just retarded and I'd never use it. In fact, I need to renegotiate my cell plan for LESS minutes. I never break 300 anytime minutes. Or maybe I need more of a social life.
My psych teacher, a masters student, is younger than me. I officially feel old now.
Burger showdown: The Hardee's 1/3 lb. Philly Cheesesteak Thickburger was decent. For those who don't know, this is one of the Angus thickburger patties topped with essentially a cheesesteak sandwich - cheesesteak, melted cheddar cheese, onions, and peppers. I know, it's ridiculous. It was worth trying once but I doubt I'd get it again. The Burger King Texas Double Whopper was just a double whopper with bacon, jalapenos, and cheese - and it's a good burger. Better alternative: just get a double Whataburger and add the above three items. That's just me though.
14-3. way to go Sox. Keep blastin the Yanks.
Cheap Seats on ESPN Classic is a great show. I always meant to watch it more - not a problem now that it's got a Season Pass on the Tivo. Big thumbs up for a good marriage of comedy and sports.

Glad you like your new setup. I just hax0r3d my Xbox and put Xbox Media Center on it. It's pretty cool. It's connected to my network, so I just stream whatever I want from my PC to my Xbox, through the TV and stereo setup there. MP3 playlists streaming off of my PC for parties, downloads of any movie/music/video content that I have on my computer, whatever. It's great! I'm starting to become a couch potato too though... I tend to come home, eat and watch some shows I downloaded.
Hi Matt,
Congrats on finishing the MCAT and the semester. I am sure you did super well. Keep me posted with your application process and...come to Boston!
Take care,
