Best Albums of 2000

2000 was a great year, especially for music. As I was well entrenched into college life and its corresponding high-speed internet connection, my music library expanded almost overnight. I had access to all types of music, so 2000 was somewhat of a musical epiphany for me. A hard year to rank, here's my favorites of Y2K...

10. One - The Beatles
Reflections: While greatest hits packages are usually lame, this one breaks the mold. With the rampant success of One came many, many, many other repacked greatest hits albums from other bands, very few are as worthy of a purchase as this one. One was made for casual Beatles fans like me, who wanted to hear them without buying a ton of CDs. If you're like me in that regard, then One is a great purchase.
Best tracks: Help!, Love Me Do, countless others Beatles classics

9. Hooray For Boobies - The Bloodhound Gang
Reflections: This album is hilarious. It's dirty, raunchy, and probably made for 13 year old boys. That being said, I love this album. It's a fun time, and listening to it just puts me in a good mood. It's a party on a disc, so if you're looking for some fun, open your CD player and enjoy Hooray For Boobies.
Best tracks: I Hope You Die, Mope, The Bad Touch, Ballad of Chasey Lain, Hell Yeah

8. How To Meet Girls - Nerf Herder
Reflections: Some criticize this album as being stale and devoid of new ideas. I say that's full of it. How To Meet Girls is poppy and catchy, and is another great album by the Nerf Herder boys. Not really much to say about it, but it's worth a listen.
Best tracks: Lamer Than Lame, Pervert, 5000 Ways To Die, Feeling Bad

7. Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy - Mindless Self Indugence
Reflections: Probably the oddest band I've ever listened to, I heard of these guys via a video featuring pokémon, and it was absolutely hilarious. I later downloaded this album and it can best be described as ADHD-rock. These guys are neurotic, crazy, politcally incorrect, and rock hard. It's odd (just check the title), but damn, it's good. If music was a drug, this album would definitely be cocaine. Crazy shit.
Best tracks: Bitches, Clarissa, Faggot, Holy Shit, I Hate Jimmy Page, Masturbates, Planet of the Apes

6. Figure 8 - Elliott Smith
Reflections: Elliott Smith's 2000 album, Figure 8, is raw, insanely diverse, and a smooth listen. The piano/harpsichord intro on 'Junk Bond Trader' is something you have to hear to believe - it's so amazing to hear. The album is folksy and indie, but it still is something you'd want to listen to. Give Figure 8 a shot.
Best tracks: Junk Bond Trader, Son of Sam, LA, Happiness, Can't Make A Sound

5. The Marshall Mathers LP - Eminem
Reflections: Em's first album was a joke album compared to this serious work of art. Dark and personal, this album is quality rap from start to finish. One of the most influential artists of the 2000s, Eminem's rhymes are simply incredible on this album.
Best tracks: Stan, Criminal, The Way I Am, Bitch Please II, Marshall Mathers

4.Relationship of Command - At The Drive-In
Reflections: The emo/hard rock wailers from El Paso's third (and final) release, Relationship of Command, is a trip that has to be heard to be believed. They are absolutely crazy, and absolutely addictive. Once you're hooked, you can't put the headphones down. This is one hell of a fine example of good hard rock.
Best tracks: One Armed Scissor, Pattern Against User, Enfilade, Rolodex Propaganda, Arcarsenal

3. Hybrid Theory - Linkin Park
Reflections: While rap-rock usually comes out a horrible, horrible mistake (just see Limp Bizkit for proof), Linkin Park is the one act that pulls it off successfully. Contrary to most people's pre-formed stereotypes, LP is not a rock band for 14-year-olds, Metallica-lite. Hybrid Theory is one hell of an album, whether you want to admit it or not. It rocks from start to finish, and I for one am glad to own it.
Best tracks: Papercut, Forgotten, Runaway, Crawling, Pushing Me Away

2. Stankonia - Outkast
Reflections: Wow. What can you say about this album that hasn't already been said though? One of the best rap albums ever, Outkast proves that they are the reigning kings of hip-hop. Stankonia is the place 'from which all funky things come', and this is one of the funkiest albums ever. If you don't own this, then go get it. That is, if you can find a way to crawl out from under that rock.
Best tracks: B.O.B., So Fresh So Clean, Humble Mumble, Red Velvet, Xplosion, Ms. Jackson

1. Pennybridge Pioneers - Millencolin
Reflections: It would take an album of sheer brilliance to beat out Stankonia, and that's exactly what Swedish punk act Millencolin did with Pennybridge. After hearing 'No Cigar' off the Tony Hawk 2 soundtrack, I downloaded this album, and bought it a few days later. It's one of the finest examples of punk rock I've ever heard, and everybody I know who I've introduced to them has felt the same way. This album is amazing. Get it.
Best tracks: All of them kick ass. Seriously, this is one hell of a solid disc.
